Well the role Kingsley plays here predates the psychopath he played in the later SEXY BEAST, but this film showcases three excellent performances rather than one. Interesting comparison there with Von Trier’s casting of Dafoe. Of course, the aesthetic inspiration remains Schubert’s ravishing ‘String Quartet No. 14 in D Minor’ also known as the ‘Death and the Maiden Quartet.’ which is one of the titanic composer’s greatest works.
Again, your insights here are peerless, and superlative clip from the film.
