Yes indeed Srikanth! I saw this film when it first released years ago at the Cinema Village and was dazzled, frightened and fascinated. It was not like anything I had ever seen. I was deeply saddened to hear of Kon’s early passing, and the loss of an artist of deep and exceptional skill.

As always a top-drawer piece here.

Certainly when one ponders ‘forms and designs’ in a cinematic sense this sensory film is envisioned at the forefront. I still think of it as Teshigahara’s supreme masterpiece.

I first saw this film as a college student in 1974 at the now defunct First Avenue Screening Room in Manhattan. At the time every new art house release was a reason for excitement, and this subversive film really sent shock waves at a time when such filmmaking was rare. The film is known to have influenced Kubrick’s A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. As always a superbly penned capsule here.

Terrific dude…hats off to you…Hey Ram is a brilliant film..this is is kamal hassans best film a nd one of the greatest indian movie….i mean…come on…how can Sholay be better than this..??..Unfortunately indian audiences still prefer masala films….Films like Hey ram define quality cinema…Strangely even prominent critics blasted the film…there was this stupid critic who said Hey Ram has only kamal hassan in every scene and he sidelines every other actor..the film is a flashback from kamal’s prespective so obviously kamal had to b there..this was another terrific piece of direction….i am gonna watch this again…thanks again bro ..!
